Electromagnetic Compatibility

Introduction :

This working group, through most of its members, is the REF-Union EMC committee and its equivalent representation at the IARU. It has been created in the beginning of 2003 when it has been found needs to answer at several worries related to Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) in the French radio amateur community and also that similar entities were already existing in others national associations.

Electromagnetic compatibility is defined through the European directives as "the ability of any device, appliance or system to operate, within its electromagnetic environment, satisfactorily and without producing by itself any intolerable disturbance to anything situated in this environment".

Domains where the EMC group can act are :

  • Regulations related to the marketing of electronic equipment submitted to EMC requirements ;
  • Regulations related to public exposure at electromagnetic radiations ;
  • Practical answers to important or usual questions from radio amateurs, particularly REF-Union members, and anybody concerned by their activities ;
  • Defence of the radio amateurs interests within the environment of a wide variety of electric and electronic equipments ;
  • Analysis of the coherence between standardisations to which all these equipments have to refer and the radio amateur service regulation.

Skill :

This EMC group results from the assembly of various benevolent skills related to domains listed here above. Any external assistance or contribution is welcome. The cohesion of the whole radio amateur world in this domain will make our success and will be beneficial to every one.
